The World Trick Shot Championships is a worldwide championship of trick shot pool. It took place at snooker tables and was the first competition to be held. Matchroom Sport organized the competition. In the 1970s, many professional billiards gamers began performing trick shots. These players were awarded prizes including the World Championship of Artistic Pool (ICCP), the International Challenge Cup and the Swedish Championship. Trick shot is a type of pool that is sanctioned by the World Pool-Billiard Alliance. Other than participating in tournaments as trick shot artists, they also teach other people the sport.
Mike Massey was a famous trick shot artist in the world since the late 70s. He has played many games with sports celebrities, such as Jason Gedrick and Paul Sorvino. Massey is also a prominent figure in the sport, both as an instructor and fund raiser. His performances at Wentworth's Waste Management Pheonix Open as well as the Volvo PGA At Wentworth has earned him a high level of visibility.
Mike Massey has been instructing professionals in the sport such as Scott Baiin and Dean Cain. He has won several professional international competitions, and has been a member of Team U.S.A., which won the trick shot world championship in 2002. The team performed at both the HSBC Championships Abu Dhabi as well as the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.
Jim Sommer is another talented trick shot artist. He has played in many international Trick-shot turnering events and has also traveled to the United States to compete in the US Nationals. He is the US Nationals Artistic Pool Championship Champion.
The World Trick Shot Artists Association (WTSAA) is an organization of trick shot artists from all over the world. Paul Gerni, a world champion in trick shot, organizes the association. The WTSAA Book contains 160 tricks. Some of these tricks include: the machine gun shot; the "kick", shot; and the quick fire shot. Other trick shots include "pro" shot (extremely cut shot), and "proper" shot.
Tim "The Dragon", Chin (2022 US Nationals Artistic Pool Champion), won the prestigious title defeating Jason Lynch (The Michigan Kid) in the finals. Both Lynch, Chin, and Lynch have been WPA World Ranked. Lynch is still an Ohio State student, but Chin has the advantage as a seasoned professional.
The next Trick Shot Magic event will be held on October 9-10. The event will include eight international stars. They will compete to win a purse of $40,000. Each player will be able to choose six to ten pre-defined shots. Each player will get three chances at completing the shot once they have chosen their favorites. A point will be awarded to the player who completes a successful shot.
Geoff McIlroy has been the greatest trick shot artist on the planet for many years. Noel Hunt inspired him and he began to practice trick shots. He has fallen from ladders and met people that he never thought he would meet, but he has never given up on trying.
