Why Are Snooker Cues Made of Ash?

Snooker cues can be made from many different materials. Some are heavier than other, while some are lighter than the others. Maple and ash are great choices for snooker cues, regardless of their material. Maple is not without its disadvantages so be careful. These woods have varying degrees of whippyness and stiffness, so it's important to be careful when choosing your cue.

Materials used in snooker cues

Ash cues feature clear grain patterns including chevrons or arrows. The graining can make it difficult to bend them straight because they are often uneven and wide. As a result, it is important to choose your cue carefully to avoid any potential problems.

Ash cues are traditionally made with English ash. Unfortunately, this is less common because of felling laws. Recently, American ash has been in high demand. It is straight grain. English ash cues often appear darker and heavier with visible chevrons. Acer Sacrarum maples may also be used by players. However, they are usually more expensive. Maple timber is fully kiln-dried, and then seasoned for at a minimum of 12 months.

Rolled and bounded the same

Ash is a dense and lightweight wood, which is ideal for making a cue in snooker. It is not as expensive as some of the high-end luxury snooker cues. It has some flexibility, which makes it easier to spin the ball. It also has a lower deflection than other woods.

Maple and Ash are two of the most common timbers for cue shafts. Maple and Ash both offer high levels of rigidity as well as playability. Some models feature brass or plastic ferrules.

Responsive for wear and tear

You need to look after your snooker cups. They should be kept out of direct sunlight, moisture and heat. They should be kept on a cue rack to avoid warping and damage. Protect them from chemicals and abrasive materials like sandpaper.

One way to keep them in good condition is to add weight. Selecting a cue must weigh no less than 17 ounces is advisable. Anything less than that can cause strain on your arm. An arm acceleration problem can be caused by a cue that's too light.

Additional weight at the butt

For a balanced snooker game, it is crucial to know the weight of the butt on a cue. Many cues have ash but some are made out of maple. Some cues come with intricate decorations, while some are unadorned.

The shaft's butt is a larger, heavier piece that is attached to it by a screw. The shaft is smaller and more narrow. The two pieces are attached at the butt, where a male screw threads into a female screw. Cue joints can be made of wood, plastic, or brass. Most common is the brass-to–brass joint.

Ash billiard is one of the most common types of snooker dice. Ash snooker cues are usually between 18 and 20 ounces. This is significantly lighter than the heavier billiard balls. While most snooker cues can be made of ash (mostly), there are also cues made out of maple.

Ash snooker dice are also more affordable than other materials. They will cost you based on their wholesale price. As a result, it's easy to find a cue with a good price.
