World Ranking Snooker

The official snooker world ranking system ranks players based on their most recent performance. It is administered by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA). This listing is updated following each event in the ranking series. To be eligible for the World Snooker Tour, players must hold a current ranking in snooker. Players are seeded according to their performance in specific tournaments and their ranking.

For the first two years, the snooker world rankings were based on the results of three World Championships: the World Open, UK Championship, and the Professional Players Tournament. The winner of each of these events was given one seed, and the runner-ups were given two. From 1976 to 1982, the World Championship was the only ranking competition. In 1982, the International Open was the fourth ranking tournament. More tournaments were added as the competition grew.

During this time the knockout format at the World Championship was re-introduced. This is considered the birth of modern snooker. Most records are now based on records that date back to 1969. The current total number of titles on the snooker ranking list is 31.
